Mrs. Copass' Classroom
Our Core Curriculum ~ Workshop Model
Read the descriptions below to learn more about how we will be learning reading, writing, and arithmetic in 3C.

Guided Reading
Guided reading is small-group reading instruction designed to provide differentiated teaching that supports students in developing reading proficiency. The small group model allows children to be taught in a way that is intended to be more focused on their specific needs, accelerating their progress.

Guided Writing
Guided writing is an opportunity for the teacher to work intensively with a small group of students who share similar learning needs. Guided writing often follows shared writing. The guided writing group may be a longer term group, or it may be an occasional group formed for a specific instructional objective.

Words Their Way
Words Their Way is a developmental spelling, phonics, and vocabulary program where students learn through word study. Students learn by completing activities such as word sorting, word hunts, games and drawing and labeling. Students work individually, with partners, and in small groups to encourage cooperative learning and individual responsibility.

Guided Math
Guided Math is similar to Guided Reading in that the teacher puts the students into small groups and the students work on specific skills being taught in centers around the room. Differentiation is achieved as students are in different groups and instruction is changed to target the needs of the student.
